Stack Stats

Track your performance and Know Exactly What to Practice
Every golfer wants to shoot lower scores.
Most golfers assume they already know what they need to work on.
"I need to putt better."
"My driver is killing me."
"My wedge game isn't good enough."
But our memories are surprisingly unreliable. One three-putt, one drive into the trees, or one chunked wedge can dominate how we remember an entire round—even if those shots weren't actually where we lost the most strokes.
That's why the world's best golfers rely on data instead of memory.
Stack Stats transforms every round into a detailed performance analysis, automatically calculating Strokes Gained and identifying exactly where you gain—or lose—shots against golfers at your chosen skill level.
Stack Stats replaces guesswork with objective feedback. By automatically calculating your Strokes Gained and analyzing every part of your game, it shows you exactly where you're losing strokes—and exactly what deserves your next hour of practice.
No spreadsheets. No complicated analysis. Just clear answers about where lower scores will come from.
Why Most Golfers Practice the Wrong Things
Every golfer has limited practice time.
The question isn't whether you should practice.
It's what you should practice.
Without objective feedback, most golfers gravitate toward the parts of the game they enjoy most—or the shots they remember hitting poorly. Unfortunately, those aren't always the same areas costing the most strokes.
You might spend an hour on the range chasing a better driver while quietly losing five shots around the greens every round. Or you might become obsessed with three-putts when approach play is actually preventing you from creating birdie opportunities in the first place.
The result?
Hours of practice with very little improvement.
The fastest way to lower your scores isn't necessarily practicing more.
It's practicing the right things.
Golf's Most Powerful Statistic—Now Built Into TheStack
Professional golf has changed dramatically over the past two decades.
Tour players, coaches, and equipment companies no longer rely on traditional statistics like fairways hit or putts per round. Instead, they use Strokes Gained—a revolutionary way of measuring performance that evaluates every shot relative to expectation.
Rather than simply counting fairways or greens, Strokes Gained asks a much more important question:
How much did this shot improve your position compared to what an average golfer at your chosen skill level would have achieved?
It's a fundamentally better way to evaluate performance because it captures the value of every shot, from every location on the course.
Until recently, however, Strokes Gained analysis was largely reserved for tour players, coaches, and golfers willing to spend hours entering data into spreadsheets.
Stack Stats brings this same level of insight to every golfer.

Finally Know Where You're Losing Strokes
After each round, Stack Stats automatically breaks your performance into the four areas that matter most.
Driving
How much are tee shots helping—or hurting—your score?
Distance, accuracy, penalties, and positioning all contribute to your Driving Strokes Gained.
Approach Play
Approach shots create scoring opportunities.
Whether you're hitting wedges from 90 yards or long irons into par fives, Stack Stats measures how effectively you're moving the ball toward the hole.
Short Game
Chips, pitches, bunker shots, and recovery shots often separate good rounds from great ones.
Stack Stats shows exactly how much you're saving—or giving away—inside scoring distance.
Putting
Putting performance is about far more than total putts.
Stack Stats evaluates every putt based on where it started, rewarding excellent lag putting while identifying opportunities to convert more birdies and eliminate costly mistakes.
Instead of wondering where you struggled, you'll know.
Stack Stats doesn't just measure your game. It points you toward lower scores.
Enter a Round in Minutes
Powerful analysis doesn't require complicated data entry.
During, or after your round, simply record each shot by selecting:
- Lie
- Distance remaining
- Club
- Penalties (if applicable)
- Whether the shot finished in the hole
That's it.
Stack Stats performs the calculations behind the scenes, automatically generating detailed Strokes Gained reports and performance summaries without requiring you to understand any of the underlying mathematics.
You focus on your golf.
We'll handle the analytics.

Every Shot Has a Story
Golf isn't won or lost by one statistic.
It's won one shot at a time.
Every drive, approach, chip, bunker shot, recovery, and putt contributes to your final score. Stack Stats captures each of those moments and combines them into a complete picture of your performance.
A single missed green might not matter much.
Missing five greens because of poor distance control tells a very different story.
Likewise, 30 putts might represent an exceptional putting day—or a poor one—depending on where those putts started.
By evaluating every shot in context, Stack Stats uncovers patterns that traditional scorecards simply can't reveal.
More Than Strokes Gained
While Strokes Gained forms the foundation of Stack Stats, it's only the beginning.
Every round also builds a detailed statistical profile of your game, including:
- Fairways Hit
- Greens in Regulation
- Driving Distance
- Longest Drive
- 75th Percentile Driving Distance
- Putts per Round
- Birdies, Pars, Bogeys, and Doubles
- Scoring Averages
- Round History
- Performance Trends
These traditional statistics become far more meaningful when viewed alongside your Strokes Gained data, helping you understand not just what happened—but why.
Compare Yourself to Golfers Like You
Comparing yourself to PGA Tour players can be inspiring.
It's rarely useful.
Stack Stats allows you to compare your performance against golfers ranging from elite players all the way through higher handicaps.
Want to know how your driving compares to a scratch golfer?
Curious whether your short game is closer to a 10-handicap or a 20-handicap?
Simply change the comparison level and instantly see where your game stands.
Because improvement is easier to understand when you're measuring yourself against golfers with similar abilities—not the best players on the planet.
Find the Lowest Hanging Fruit
Imagine finishing a round and seeing this:
- Driving: +0.3
- Approach: –0.8
- Short Game: –1.0
- Putting: –4.6
Without Stack Stats, you might remember one poor drive and head straight to the range.
With Stack Stats, the answer is obvious.
Putting—not driving—is costing nearly five strokes every round.
That's where your practice should begin.
Instead of guessing where you'll improve the fastest, Stack Stats points you directly toward the biggest opportunities to lower your scores.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any Stack hardware to use Stack Stats?
No. Stack Stats is available as part of TheStack Scoring subscription and works independently of Stack Speed Training. If your primary goal is lowering scores through smarter practice and better decision-making, Stack Stats can be an excellent place to start.
Who is Stack Stats designed for?
Anyone who wants to improve.
Whether you're trying to break 100, become a single-digit handicap, or compete at a high level, Stack Stats helps identify where you're actually losing strokes so you can practice more effectively.
Why not just use a scorecard or golf GPS app?
Traditional scorecards tell you what you shot.
Stack Stats tells you why you shot it.
By analyzing every shot using modern Strokes Gained methodology, Stack Stats identifies the parts of your game that are costing the most strokes—and where your practice will have the greatest impact.
How many rounds do I need before the data becomes useful?
You'll begin learning from your very first round.
However, the real power of Stack Stats comes from identifying long-term trends. After approximately five rounds, patterns usually begin to emerge, making it much easier to separate an off day from a true strength or weakness.
How long does it take to enter a round?
Most golfers can enter an 18-hole round in about 5–10 minutes after a little practice.
You can also enter shots during the round if you prefer, or use Stack Stats' scorecard photo import feature to speed up data entry.
Do my distances need to be exact?
No.
Consistency is much more important than perfection. Small errors in estimated yardages have very little impact over time, and Stack Stats is designed to reveal trends across many rounds rather than judge individual shots.
I've never heard of Strokes Gained. Will I understand it?
Absolutely.
Stack Stats performs all of the calculations automatically and presents the results in an easy-to-understand format. You don't need to know the mathematics behind Strokes Gained to benefit from it.
Can I compare myself to golfers at my own skill level?
Yes.
Rather than comparing yourself only to PGA Tour players, Stack Stats lets you select a handicap baseline that matches your game. This provides much more meaningful insights and helps you focus on realistic opportunities for improvement.
How does Stack Stats fit with the rest of TheStack?
Think of Stack Stats as your golf coach.
It identifies where you're losing strokes.
Then the rest of TheStack ecosystem helps you improve those areas.
- Driving → Speed Training
- Approach Play → Practice Tracker
- Short Game → Seasonal Circuit
- Putting → Stack Putting
Stack Stats tells you what to practice. The rest of TheStack helps you practice it.
